JaneThe Big Girls Blues Band is one of the funkiest, bluesiest, soulfullest bands in and around the London clubs and pubs. The band has 8 members - Justin, Jane and Alice on vocals, Roger and Tony on guitars, Michele or Josh on drums , Dek on bass and vocals and Barry on sax. The band plays a mix of Motown/Trenchtown and Kentish Town including songs by Marvin, Latimore, Stevies Wonder andRay Vaughan, Robert Cray, 100% Proof Aged in Soul, Al Green, Delbert McClinton, The late Mr Please Please himself, Bobs Marley and Dylan, Tony Tone Toni, Ann Peebles, the Franklin sisters Erma and Aretha - in fact anything that moves the feet, the soul or the furniture.

The band plays regularly at The Old Explorer in Londons West End, Jazz After Dark in Soho, The Kings Head in Islington, Joogleberrys in Brighton, Shannon Knights in Shannon Eire and anywhere that has a plug, a rug and a jug. Above all this band likes to have fun and funk - we play some old stuff and some new stuff and some blue stuff and although we are not locked in a sad little time warp from a bygone era - we have no computers, drum machines or weird noise gadgets on stage..Until recently we had Def the crazy sex starved microphone, headphone and all round vibrating Swiss genius mixing sound for us. How he did it no one knows or cares but girls ran for cover when Def had his jackplug out and when on his final gig at the Old Explorer he removed his lederhosen, unfastened his skis, put down his pint and plugged a Strat into Mr Orlandos amp and hit a G chord [we were playing in E] the applause was life threatening. You had to be there etc etc....Def is of course not replaceable but Matteo from Puglia has bravely taken over where Def left off and in between showing off his dexterity to Eastern European waitresses manages to sort the cables from the spaghetti, mozzarella and bresaola. Feedback on his performance will not be appreciated.

A special mention for our 3 sensual out front singers - "Don't send me no doctor filling me up with all those pills…" the damnedly delicious Jane from Limerick Ireland, "I don't want to be with nobody but you" the serene and silky smooth Sarah, also from Southern Ireland and last but (oh no) definitely not least the lovely "You're taking up another man's place - but get me a large Baileys and ice, sunshine, before you push off..." our very own diminutive trainee diva - Alice. They look good, sound wonderful but they are B.A.D. B.A.D. B.A.D..Come and see us soon - check the listings and watch out for our up coming Europe Tour taking in Paris, Amsterdam, Portugal, and of course Kentish Town,....and Boogie !!!!

The band is managed by the Essex Girl from Braintree, the lovely pink (sometimes) haired (courtesy of Karen from Finchley) Julie whose management duties extend way beyond sorting out the gigs and whose job description includes offering personal advice to band members about everything from how to be nice to WAGS to why packing up after the gig is not the most exciting way to spend the night and is definitely not a spectatator sport. She is occasionally assisted by the equally lovely "Mine's a Shiraz – a bottle – thanks" Mel from Derby who ( with the help of the Shiraz) can sometimes be persuaded to get into some serious tambourine shaking action and some oh so sweet backing vocals.
